Everything you need to know for a pet friendly holiday
Bring your pet on holiday to the Kiama area, too! We love seeing your furry friends enjoying the area just as much as you. No matter where you’re staying in the region, you will soon discover there’s no need to leave your fur babies at home. Follow this guide to pet friendly beaches and parks, accommodation, cafés and pet boarding.
Dog Friendly Beaches
There’s nothing better than seeing our four-legged friends wag their tail and roll in the sand at the beach. That’s why the Kiama area is home to three dog friendly beaches; Bombo Beach, Jones Beach and Werri Beach. These beaches all have off-leash areas so your pup can run free. If your dog enjoys the water they might like to splash and swim in the shores too. A friendly reminder that dogs are only permitted off-leash from sunrise to sunset, and need to be walked on a leash when accessing these areas.
Bombo Beach – Bombo is a great beach to let your dog run along the shores. Keep in mind your dog is only allowed in the centre of the beach, so be sure to keep your dog in that proximity – if unsure simply follow the signage prompts on the beach.
Werri Beach– Located off Pacific Avenue, Werri Beach off leash area is in a prime location opposite the surf club, bowling club and Werri Beach Holiday Park. Like the Bombo Beach off-leash area, your dog is only permitted in the middle of the beach, so follow the signs to make sure your dog is in the right area.
Jones Beach (Southern End) – Situated between Minnamurra Headland and the basalt columns of Cathedral Rocks. The off-leash area is located at the southern end of Jones Beach. Keep in mind that entry and exit is only permitted via the beach access track.
Dog Friendly Parks and Grassy Areas
Bring your best friend to one of our abundant dog friendly grassy areas where they can run free without a worry. Friendly reminder to follow signage and keep your pooch in the allocated areas at all times. Remember to always pick up after them, too!
Black Head Reserve, Gerroa – Accessible from Stafford Street or Headland Drive in Gerroa. Enjoy stunning views with your furry friend looking over Seven Mile Beach and the Pacific Ocean. This area is a 24 hour off leash area, so enjoy at any time of the day.
Bombo Headland and Dog Agility Park – Best accessed from the carpark at the north end of Bombo Beach, the agility park gives your four legged friends the chance to let loose and test their skills with the dog agility equipment.
Gerringong Headland – Located off Tasman Drive, and a short walk from Werri Beach rock pool and Boat Harbour. Enjoy the large off-leash area with spectacular views of the ocean and coastline. Here, the whale watching platform is the ideal place to see humpback whales migrating south with their calves from May to November.
Kaleula Head Reserve – Accessed via Gwinganna Avenue, this headland is an easy walk from Kendalls Beach. This area provides great views of the Pacific Ocean and uninterrupted views north to the Kiama Lighthouse.
Marsden Head – Located just a short walk south of Kaleula Head Reserve. Accessed via Tingara Crescent, this headland overlooks Easts Beach. As an added bonus, it’s also home to the Little Blowhole!
Minnamurra Headland – Located between Jones Beach and the mouth of the Minnamurra River, just off Eureka Avenue. This huge area is perfect for your pooch to run, while you enjoy a gentle stroll with stunning views.
If you’re keen to make the most of our pet-friendly coastline, the Kiama Coast Walk is the perfect choice. The entire length of the walk (over 20kms!) is dog friendly if they’re on a leash. Some of the beaches on the walk prohibit dogs, so check the signs or simply walk on the street behind if unsure. Follow the guide above for the dog friendly beaches.
