Rivers & Waterways
Rivers
The star of our show is often Minnamurra River, when it comes to well-known rivers to play in. But there is another, mostly associated with our local winery, Crooked River Wines. Crooked River offers another beautiful area to explore for fishing, paddle boarding, kayaking and playing in knee deep waters with the little ones!
Waterways
Located only a few minutes west of Kiama township, the Spring Creek Wetlands walk is often overlooked but offers a wonderful example of rehabilitated wetlands. To get there, follow Terralong St towards Jamberoo, past the A1 highway turn-off and turn right at the 2nd roundabout into Dido St, then right into Glenbrook Drive. The entrance to the park is from a small carpark. Walk along the banks of Spring Creek to the lagoon through a variety of regenerating bushland or enjoy the birdlife from the constructed hide. You’ll find numerous waterbirds and common bush birds including Goldenheaded Cisticola, Black-fronted Dotterel, Black-faced Cuckoo-shrike and Mistletoebird.
Jerrara Dam is a picturesque reserve established on a nine hectare dam that was once Kiama’s main water supply.
Kiama Harbour
Boasting two sheltered harborside ocean pools and a walking path linking Black Beach to the Kiama Lighthouse and Blowhole. Indulge in fresh local seafood, try your hand at fishing, launch a boat, embark on a paddle adventure with your SUP or kayak, or join a fishing charter for an excursion to deeper waters.
Help keep our coastline unspoilt by joining us to “take 3 for the sea” – leaving only footprints and taking 3 pieces of rubbish that you find.
Leave only footprints, take only memories – and some good photos! Please take all rubbish with you or utilise the bins provided.
Even small changes to an ecosystem can upset the fragile balance. When exploring the region please respect the natural environment by taking only photographs and leaving only footprints.
BYO drink bottle and utilise the free water filling stations found along the Kiama Coast Walk and other stations around town.
