SEVENMARKS Gallery, Kiama, has great pleasure in presenting a rare and meaningful opportunity for visitors to engage directly with artists from Arnhem Land in the exhibition ‘Going to the Southeast Saltwater’ (Guyurrmirr dhimurru-makarr djalaltha gapu bur’nap monuk lil).
This significant exhibition features traditional and contemporary weavings, painted stories and new works by emerging Yolŋu artists from Bula’Bula Arts, Ramingining. The title speaks to the artists’ journey from Arnhem Land to the South Coast, sharing culture across saltwater and land.
Some of these artists are leaving their homelands for the first time, carrying generations of wisdom shared through story, song, dance, and visual art.
This initiative is a collaboration between SEVENMARKS Gallery and Bula’Bula Arts, united in the commitment to empower and inspire people through direct access to contemporary and ancestral Aboriginal culture.
This project was made possible by the Australian Government’s Regional Arts Fund, which supports the arts in regional and remote Australia. Bula’bula Arts would like to thank both the Australian Government’s Regional Arts Fund and Indigenous Visual Arts Industry Support program for supporting our Art Centre.
With thanks to Destination Kiama and Kiama Municipal Council for their sponsorship.
