Serving military personnel, veterans and emergency service first responders are invited to a special Anzac Day lead-up event at the Historical Aircraft Restoration Society Tarmac Days this April.
Held on Friday 10 April, the event will showcase a rare ground parade of up to five former Royal Australian Air Force, Australian Army and Royal Australian Navy aircraft, alongside additional static displays. Guests are encouraged to arrive from 10am for morning tea, with the official program commencing at 10.30am.
A highlight of the day will take place around midday, when the world’s only flying Lockheed Super Constellation—affectionately known as “Connie”—takes to the skies. Restored by HARS volunteers and now flying as VH-EAG Southern Preservation, the aircraft stands as a remarkable tribute to aviation history.
The event honours service across military and civil sectors, with organisers Professor Michael Hough and John Stead—both Army veterans—bringing together a powerful display of heritage aircraft spanning multiple eras. These include the Dakota, Caribou, Grumman Tracker, Neptune and Orion, with the possibility of a Vietnam-era Huey helicopter also appearing.
Visitors wearing service medals will receive free entry and be invited to enjoy morning tea, participate in commemorative moments, and take part in group photographs alongside the aircraft.
The Tarmac Day concludes at 12.30pm, with attendees invited to continue the occasion at the Albion Park RSL Club for a shared lunch with local RSL sub-branches.
