Take a walk back in time to celebrate 150 years since Robertson Basin opened…

31 Shoalhaven Street Kiama New South Wales 2533 Australia

Take a walk back in time to celebrate 150 years since Robertson Basin opened on 20 September 1876. The new harbour led to an economic boom, transforming Kiama from a sleepy market town to a thriving industrial settlement.

Local historian Dr Tony Gilmour will tell tales of drunken cedar cutters partying on Black Beach, horrendous shipwrecks, a mammoth harbour construction project and a lost ‘Olympic’ swimming pool. Not to mention Kiama’s notorious ‘fish and chips war’.

This gentle 1.5 km stroll on paved surfaces is suitable for all ages and abilities. Meet by the lawn, between Penny Whistler cafe and Yves bar at the Sebel Hotel. The walk finishes at the award-winning Pilot’s Cottage Museum on Blowhole Point. Ticket prices include free museum entry.
