Hinterland hideaways in the Kiama area
While the Kiama area is best known for its beautiful beaches and pristine coastline, our hinterland is home to scenery just as stunning.
Rolling green hills, remnant rainforest and lush dairy fields make a compelling argument to say ‘see you soon’ to the sandy shores and take the area’s roads less travelled. We’ve rounded up a list of luxe hinterland hideaways that will provide the feeling of being miles away, when really its only minutes…
As the Kiama area’s first eco-accommodation, Cicada combines luxury and sustainability. With tents scattered across the adults-only property on Saddleback Mountain, you’ll be surrounded by Jerrara’s gently rolling hills, with the greenery stretching as far as the eye can see. The Safari Tents come with a king bed, fully equipped kitchenette, deck, firepit and outdoor bath – the perfect place to settle in and slow down.
Nestled at the base of Jamberoo Mountain, The Lodge Jamberoo is a local institution that has recently undergone a major facelift. Offering over 40 rooms, this is anything but your average hotel. With a pool, tennis court and restaurant onsite you could easily while away the hours without leaving the property, sound tracked by the babble of the nearby river.
With panoramic views which fade from green to blue, you can see why they say this is where the mountains meet the sea. Surrounded by 100acres of lush green, Cedar Springs has all the privacy (and perfection) of a house in the Hollywood Hills. Boasting East and West wings, a private tennis court, and a pool just made for parties, this 6-bedroom, 9-bed house will leave you wanting for nothing.
While it wouldn’t look out if place on the pages a children’s story book, Kelly Cottage is perched atop Jerrara’s rolling hills and bursting at the seams with its famous country charm. Fully self-contained, this 3-bedroom cottage boasts stained glass windows, timber floors and views that stretch on for days.
Did someone say spa with sea views? No matter where you turn, you’re greeted by bright and light. This 4-bedroom cottage offers 180-degreee views from paddocks to the Pacific Ocean. Kids will be kept well entertained with a games room, outdoor entertaining area, friendly farmyard neighbours, a fruit orchard and a pizza oven – it’s the perfect location for a family getaway.
Just a little further south you’ll find the convict-built Coolangatta Estate. Set upon the foothills of Mount Coolangatta, views extend across the vineyard to the Shoalhaven River and out to the ocean. With a combination of cottage- and motel-style accommodation the property can cater for up to 70 guests. Offering historical walking tours, a cellar door and an on-site restaurant, there’s no shortage of ways to spend the day.
If watching the sunrise over the ocean from one of your three private decks seems like a good way to start the day, then this is the place for you. Split into The House and The Guest House, EagleView Park can sleep up to 12 guests, all of whom are sure to be suitably impressed by the infinity pool with views that stretch from country to coast. Boasting views from Gerroa to Jervis Bay, this really is the best of both worlds.
While all of these properties are hidden across our hinterland, none are more than 20 minutes from our famous sandy shores.
