EV Charge Ahead: Power up your Kiama adventure
Kiama beckons with the promise of sun-drenched beaches, bustling cafes, and a smorgasbord of activities. But for electric vehicle (EV) owners, a key question lingers: where can I charge my car? Fear not! Kiama is embracing the EV revolution, offering a range of charging options to keep your journey smooth and sustainable.
The Pavilion
Leading the charge (pun intended) in the EV space is The Pavilion. Located on Bong Bong Street, this spot boasts two EV stations with four charging ports at the south-east end of the car park. Whether you’re attending an event at The Pavilion, catching waves at Surf Beach, stocking up on goodies from Kiama Farmers’ Market or exploring the town, it’s a super convenient pit stop.
Charging is completely free until February 2025, so be sure to make the most! After that, modest rates kick in, including 50c per connection, 50c per kWh, and an idle fee of $5 per 10 minutes once your car is fully charged. Download the Exploren app to get started, and you’re good to go!
Kiama Village Shopping Centre
Charging up while you shop just got a whole lot easier at Kiama Village Shopping Centre (143 Terralong Street, Kiama). Here, you’ll find convenient and affordable charging through the Chargefox network. Plug in while you shop at Woolworths, grab a coffee, or dine at the restaurants. The cost is 25c per kWh at 7kW, but bring your own Type 2 cable for a seamless experience.
Top Shop Kiama
Another conveniently located charging option is Top Shop Kiama (162 Manning St, Kiama). Their 24/7, Tesla 3 11kW AC charger sits in the back car park – perfect for grabbing groceries, enjoying a cafe treat, or visiting nearby Kendalls Beach. Plus, trailer-friendly parking makes it ideal for those towing boats or caravans.
Kiama Community Charger
Located around the corner at 19 Farmer St, Kiama, you’ll find the Kiama Community Charger. This resident-run initiative offers a 7kW charger on a donation basis ($4/hour). With convenient pull-in parking and availability from 8am to 10pm, it’s a great option for topping up your battery.
Gerringong Bowling Club
Venturing further south to Gerringong? The Gerringong Bowling Club boasts a user-friendly, 24/7 charging station, letting you play a round of barefoot bowls, explore the stunning beaches or explore with peace of mind. Your car can even recharge while you conquer the southern portion of the Kiama Coast Walk, making the Gerringong Bowling Club the perfect pit stop for those who want to stretch their legs.
EV-Friendly Accommodation
Kiama also caters to eco-conscious travellers seeking overnight stays. Here are some places to rest your head at night that will have you waking up to a fully charged car…

This architecturally designed escape isn’t just stunning – it’s sustainable too! Boasting rooftop solar, water tanks, and a free 7.4kW EV charger (standard Type 2 connector), Green Door Kiama lets you minimise your environmental impact while maximising your Kiama experience.
