Getting crafty
Ready to ignite your child’s creativity? There’s plenty on in the world of colour and imagination throughout Kiama and its surrounds these Autumn school holidays.
Bundanon Inspire School Holiday Program is on 15-16 April 2024, where young people aged 12 – 18 years can participate in artmaking, ecology walks, and visits to the Art Museum.
An abstract sewing class will be held at Kiama Library on Wednesday, 17 April 2024, followed by family portrait planters on Friday, 19 April 2024, and autumn paper wreaths on Tuesday, 23 April 2024.
In honour of ANZAC Day, both Gerringong Library (Thursday, 18 April 2024) and Kiama Library (Monday, 22 April 2024) will be running poppy painting sessions.
Additionally, kids cross stitch bookmarks will be held on Tuesday, 23 April 2024 at Gerringong Library and a finger knitting workshop at Kiama Library on Friday, 26 April 2024.
Every day during the school holidays, there are 11am and 2pm sessions at the Bead Shack, where children gather around a big, inviting table brimming with colourful beads and supplies to make fun creations.
Paint the town
If painting is more their thing, there’s a whole range of creative workshops at Expressive Art Experience, including painting smiley faces and silhouette sunsets, both on Tuesday, 16 April 2024; crafting button seahorses, on Wednesday, 17 April 2024 and creating collage beach scenes on Monday, 22 April 2024.
Plus one of our favourites, stack of friends on Tuesday, 23 April 2024 where artists can paint their favourite animals!
For your younger aspiring artists, fun awaits at two Paint ‘n’ Pizza events at Georgia Rose Shell Cove on Thursday, 18 April 2024 and Tuesday, 23 April 2024.
For more workshop ideas, don’t forget to explore our workshops page, for a full list of creative experiences that offers something for both kids and adults.
Getting out in the fresh air
There are plenty of options to keep the kids moving these school holidays. The whole family can explore the Minnamurra Rainforest on a Ranger Tour, on Monday, 15 April 2024 or Monday 22 April 2024. Or hear about the rainforest from local Aboriginal custodians through the Gumaraa Aboriginal Cultural Tour on Tuesday, 23 April. Or if you’d prefer to see Minnamurra Rainforest (and the nocturnal critters) in all her glory at night, there’s Minnamurra by Torchlight on Wednesday, 24 April 2024.
Looking for something a little different? Get the kids to try foot golf, a blend of soccer and golf, at the Jamberoo Golf Club where the aim is to kick a soccer ball into oversized holes. Foot golf is available Monday through Friday from 2pm, and weekends from 10am. It’s a fun and active game that can be enjoyed by all skill levels!
Ready, set, explore!
Illawarra Fly is hosting a scavenger hunt every day in the school holidays. The challenge, should your kiddies choose to accept, is to head deep into the Illawarra Rainforest and find the hidden animal eggs scattered throughout!
Additionally, Granties Maze and Fun Park bring a unique experience with a large maze, mini-golf, giant chess, and other interactive games set in amongst the idyllic green hillside of Foxground, just outside Gerringong.
Water adventures
Squeeze the last out of the warmer months and head to Jamberoo Action Park. Pull a wetsuit on and ride the Taipan, get silly at Outback Bay or if the kids are feeling adventurous, ride The Perfect Storm! Pst, the best thing about visiting Jamberoo Action Park at this time of the year are the shorter queues!
Is ‘learning to surf’ on the kids’ school holiday bucket list? Hit up Surf Camp for private and group surfing lessons these school holidays. Whether they’re just starting out or have been riding waves for years, the team can cater to all experience levels.
Or for a lower impact water activity that’s equally as fun, get in touch with the legends at SUP Shellharbour for a Stand-Up Paddle Boarding session.
Speaking of getting wet, water babies won’t want to miss out on Kiama Leisure Centre’s inflatable pool toy! It will be a favourite these school holidays along with the popular gymnastics and games every Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
Beats and Bliss
Watch your kids light up the dance floor at the Kiama Golf Club Kids Disco on Sunday, 21 April 2024. For just $5, they can groove to the music and enjoy some refreshing treats.
Or you might like to experience a pamper session with your little ones these school holidays! Lucky for you, Ma Petite Cherie’s “Mini and Me” pamper sessions will be running on Thursday, 18 April 2024, and Friday, 19 April, 2024. Places always fill up fast so be sure to book in quick!
