Shopping

Say hello to a good buy ...

We’re a generous part of the world – bursting to share our wares with locals and visitors at any chance we get. And every day, you’ll find plenty of opportunities to take a leisurely browse, bag a bargain or to pick up a unique keepsake or something tasty for dinner!

If market hopping is your thing, the calendar is loaded with dates to go a-hunting. Each market and each location has its own personality – all vibrant and bringing together a diverse range of items to tempt and treat you. If it’s fresh produce you’re after, Wednesday’s Farmers’ Market in Kiama is a ‘must visit’ affair, attracting farmers and producers from miles around.

But there’s plenty more on offer here. Right throughout the Kiama area, you’ll find many boutiques, clothing stores and gift shops all ably matching their city counterparts in the retail stakes. In Gerringong and Jamberoo, it’s a mix of antiques, art, beachy fashion and homewares, while Kiama’s boutique shopping trail has its own map – pick it up from one of the 19 participating stores or at the Kiama Visitor Information Centre.

Pottery at Old Toolijooa School

Gerringong NSW

“Pottery at Old Toolijooa School” is an award-winning cottage-industry workshop.  It’s on the site of the original school set up by Alexander Berry in 1871 for tenant farmers’ children. We make most kinds of pottery... mugs, plates, teapots, bowls, owls and pussycats, wombats, dragons, little stoneware animals. Visitors are always welcome. Depending on the day, you may see pots being made, or fired, or glazed. Or just browse about in the display room, and enjoy the wide variety of finished items, for sale at what potters call “kiln-door” prices.    Open when? All day, most days, since we live and work on the premises. And where?  Right beside the highway, about 13 km south of Kiama. It’s a pleasant drive down here, but of course we do go out sometimes, so feel free to phone if you want to be sure.
