Beaches & Fishing

From surfing to sunbathing, there is a place along the Kiama coastline that is perfect for you.

There are four rock pools in the region - two in Kiama, either side of the harbour, and two in Gerringong , located at Boat Harbour and Werri Beach.

Or you can choose from one of the 10 beaches that our region has to offer!

Jones Beach: Quietly tucked away in Kiama Downs, Jones' (or Boyd's) Beach is a stretch of beach that offers great swimming and surfing for people of all abilities. The beach is patrolled during the Summer months and has a dog off leash area at the South end that gives great views of Cathedral Rocks. For the surfers, the North end offers running left handers off the rocks and the South end is protected from the dreaded Southerly wind.

Bone Yard: Kiama's premier reef break offers long walled right handers that lights up when the waves are over 4 foot and the wind is south. For beach goers the park is a great place to lay protected from the Southerly wind! The bay is also calm as the waves are stopped by the island that creates the wave.

Bombo Beach: One of the more popular beaches in Kiama, Bombo is the place to be in Summer as it is sheltered from the prevailing Northerly winds making for great swimming conditions!. For surfers, Bombo is a very versatile wave that catches plenty of swell and can hold up to 8-10ft with an easy paddle out against the rocks. The beach is patrolled during summer but be sure to look out for the red and yellow flags as the beach has many dangerous rips the further South you go.

Surf Beach: Located in the centre of Kiama, Surf beach is a great place to  swim and hang out in the park! It also features a great wave that picks up the smallest of South swells so it is a great place to check out when there's not much out there.

Werri Beach: Located in Gerringong, Werri is a very long stretch of sand that offers plenty of options for surfers from wedgy left handers up the north end, to the famed right hand point at the South end. Opening to the South, Werri catches plenty of swell and has options for both North and South winds.

Mystics Beach:  Minnamurra: Delightfully wild, it's ideal for a stroll or cheeky surf. (Vehicle access from Killalea.)

Black Beach: Stony beach within Kiama Harbour, great for shell collecting. Sheltered except in rare conditions when you may see surfers riding the waves!

Kendalls Beach: Popular local beach, with holiday park adjacent. The beach here slopes away a little steeper than Surf Beach.

Easts Beach: Great sheltered swimming for all ages. Public access by parking on Ocean Road, Marsden St or Tingira Ave and walking down.

Seven Mile Beach, Gerroa: Extremely wide and flat, making it ideal for learning to surf or safe paddling. The regular breeze is great for windsurfing and more!
