It's 100 years since May Gibbs' adorable characters found their way into the homes and hearts of Australians, and Kiama Library is celebrating with a travelling display from the State Library of NSW featuring May Gibbs' iconic artwork. Come along to the library between May 24 - June 7 to learn about the artist and her stories. Music in the Park is a free, family friendly, community monthly event, funded by Kiama Council and organised by Kiama Jazz and Blues Club. Held in Hindmarsh Park, Kiama on the first Sunday of the month between May and Nov (inclusive) between 1.00pm and 4.00pm, Music in the Park is an afternoon of music fun in the sun. Tickets can be purchased via this website. They can also be made on the day at the starting points, however you will need to arrive early. The 21.1km course for keen runners only starts at 7:30am Coronation Park at Surf Beach Kiama. The 9km course for walkers & runners starts at 9am at James Oates Reserve Minnamurra. The 5km course for walkers & runners starts at 9am at Bombo North car park. The finishing point for all entrants is Surf Beach, Kiama. Bring your dog along (with a leash) to join in the fun on the 9km or 5km courses. Strollers also welcome. Water will be provided along the way. We’re looking forward to the 4th year of The Kiama Coastal Classic. Held right in the heart of the running season, giving runners of all ages and abilities the perfect lead up event to other major events or as an opportunity to enjoy themselves among friends and family. ALL NEW distances to suit all levels of age and fitness. Each section of this incredible run will keep runners, joggers and walkers mesmerised, taking in the coastal vista and South Coast icons including Werri and Kiama Beaches, with rolling green hills on one side and rugged coastline on the other. The running festival boasts three race distances; 2 kilometre bolt, 12 kilometre one way classic and the main event, the 21 kilometre Kiama Coastal Classic. The 21km and 2km events are out and back while the 12km run/ walk is a point to point all taking in the breathtaking view of the coastline. The finish line for all three distances is at Kiama Surf Club (Coronation Park) where there will be an onsite expo and prize giveaways. All race distances will receive a finishers medal on completion of your run or walk. We pay respect to our ancestral elders, for their spirits still walk this land. This sunset and night photography workshop is one of William Pattino's signatures, and is the perfect opportunity to understand your camera and learn how to take beautiful landscape photos. In a small group, beginning at Cathedral Rocks in Kiama, the fundamentals will be covered from the ground up - the basics of the exposure triangle, focussing, using a tripod, long exposures, hand-held shooting, manual-mode, understanding composition and more. This is a laid back learning environment out in the field where William is able to answer all your questions and also work with you one-on-one. After going over the theory side of things photos will capture the sunset by the striking sea stacks at Cathedral Rocks and the magnificent and mysterious Bombo Quarry to learn about night photography and photographing the stars.
