Pics and Flicks March movie is ‘Breath'. Please note, that just for May, the Pics and Flicks film will be on the SECOND Friday of the month. This is because the Surf Life Festival will be using the Town Hall on the first Friday. Summary: Simon Baker’s directorial debut is poetic without being pretentious, capturing the natural beauty of the WA coast and the complexity of coming of age The natural beauty of the film’s coastal, Western Australian settings provides scope for symbolic interpretation. But like Winton’s novel, the film is unpretentiously profound, with a very Australian (and very cinematic) regard for allowing natural beauty to speak for itself. It is the rarest kind of sports movie, in that it will encourage in participants a different, thoroughly thoughtful perspective with which to view their pastime. Breath is a surfer film with soul and gravitas. Luke Buckmaster, The Guardian, 3rd May 2018 Tickets go on sale at Gerringong Town Hall at 7.20pm with the film starting at 8.00pm. After the film, stay for our Gerringong Pics and Flicks world famous Tea, Coffee and Cakes ($4.00) and take the time to discuss the film or anything else you like in a relaxed social atmosphere. Any questions? Artwork by Kelvin Taylor OPENING EVENT: Saturday 18th May 2-4pm. All Welcome. Soul Courageous depicts more personal and emotive topics; love, joy, and loss; fear, pride and doubt; belonging, regret and yearning. The heart of the series is very much rooted in the artist's own story and life experiences; the highs and lows, the good times, and not so good. These intimate reflections have been complemented with more general images of the world around us. The printmaking technique adopted for the entire series is that of the reduction lino-print that was a technique that the artist started using at the beginning of his printmaking journey.Learn More

Kiama Jamberoo Community Music Association is excited to welcome an Australian Folk group unlike any other. Bush Gothic describe themselves as a post-colonial bush band whose mission is to keep their folk culture breathing, the traditions stretching back hundreds of years from IONA (Islands of The North Atlantic). History records what happened and songs record how people felt about it. The history of Australia is littered with murder, sadistic commanders, cross-dressing gold diggers, gay bushrangers, riches, poverty, bizarre rituals and terrible gallows humour. Pat Dodson at Garma Festival 2016 had this to say ‘This is about all of us. It’s not some concession to the Natives. It is about this nation coming to terms with it’s dark, desperate and miserable history. But yet being able to celebrate the British tradition, the multiculturalism and the Indigenous heritage and to intertwine that in a way that gives this civil state we call Australia a new identity, a new capacity to do things differently.’ Tickets and information available here or visit the band’s website.Learn More

Artwork by Helen Pain The landscapes in this exhibition are reflections of places the artist has visited which have made an indelible impression on their memory. Each has a special appeal. Perhaps it’s the quality of light or the vibrancy and contrast of colour. Sometimes it is more subtle – the resonance of space, stillness and silence that attracts the artists to interpret what they feel. The abstract artworks begin in a freer and more intuitive style. The artist uses acrylic paint and mixed media techniques, and work in many layers, allowing the images to evolve and develop as the depth of colour, line and texture on the canvas dictate.Learn More
