Allan taught English, History and Drama in NSW High Schools, including Warilla and Dapto, at the same time managing a prolific career as a playwright.In "retirement" he became cartoonist for local newspapers, and writing a prize-winning series of short stories.Books will be available for signature and sale, and our usual quality afternoon tea will follow. Following the highly successful Lloyd Rees Festival in 2013, the next exciting Lloyd Rees project in Kiama/Gerringong is the restoration of paintings by his architectural students in 1962.These were just recently discovered a little worse for wear after a chance comment by Alan Rees, he recalled that his father had been commissioned to organise a mural for the then new assembly hall at Kiama High School.There is an appeal for funds to bring these wonderful legacy works back to life for locals and visitors alike to enjoy.Funds are being used for the restoration and re-framing of the artworks which will be displayed at this exhibition.You can donate via the website (via paypal).

Christ Church will present Serendipity ; The choir is a Southern Highlands community choir, founded in 2008. They are based in the village of Bundanoon, from where approximately one-third of their singers hail from. Ben's presentation will be preceded by a brief Annual General Meeting. You can attend the AGM safe in the knowledge that you will not be coerced into any position in our elections for 2-16/2107. Established in 1988 it is the biggest individual and longest running surf contest in the Illawarra and South Coast and attracts the best surfing talent from Port Hacking in the north down to the Victorian border. The event is the only one of its kind that caters specifically for the Illawarra and South Coast surfers. The popularity and growth of the event since its inception has seen age divisions expanded to cater for 7 age groups, male and female. The event also has 3 specialty categories to entertain surfers and spectators…The Biggest Air, The Best Barrel and The biggest Layback.Many of the regions professional surfers have used The Slash as a springboard for their careers on the world surf tours, including current and former professionals such as Sally Fitzgibbons, Tyler Wright, Owen Wright, Dean Bowen, Nic Squiers, Todd Prestage, Jake Spooner, Phil McDonald, Kate Skarrett, Sandie Dryden and Kim Wooldridge.The event has a well won reputation for being held in some of the best swells and weather of the year and last year was no exception with pumping waves and barrels on day 1 of the 2 day event. Kiama's dog-friendly community will get great tips, advice and enjoy a fun day with the pooches they love at Kiama Council's second free Dogs' Day out.The event will be staged from 10am-2.30pm on Saturday 28 May 2016 at Black Beach, Kiama.Dogs of all shapes and sizes and their owners are welcome.Activities include: a dog agility demonstrationdemonstrations of fly ballpresentation by canine behaviour specialist Steve Austinfree giveawaysjumping castle and face-paintingproduct demonstrations including grooming and naughty dog school discounted dog servicesexhibitors showcasing the latest and greatest pet products, grooming salon, dog-washing services and naughty dog schools.opportunity to get expert advice from vets and Kiama Council rangersAs well as to share a love of animals, Council Rangers said the day was designed to reinforce key messages of responsible pet ownership.Among the issues canvassed will be NSW seat belt laws around travelling with pets and general information about heatstroke and companion animals.Rangers will be on hand to answer any questions about changes to the NSW Companion Animals Act 1998.LEADING THE WAYThe Dogs' Day Out will also feature a fun Dress Up your Dog Lead Competition. Colour it, bling it, camouflage it for the chance to win some great prizes. See Kiama Council's website for more details On the day rangers and experts will provide advice on escaping/roaming cats and dogs and tips on how to avoid dog attacks – featuring a presentation and Q&@ session with guest speaker – canine behaviourist Steve Austin.Information will be shared about dog off-leash etiquette and to promote off leash areas. Kiama Council has six grassed areas and three beach areas (from sunrise to sunset).
