KDHS Present Darcy Moore - Personalising Big History

Saturday 18/06/2016 @ From 02:30 PM Kiama NSW

Kiama and District Society present Darcy Moore - Personalising Big History. If you have not heard of the "Big History" project then you could google it to realise that this is a very significant world-wide project supported by the likes of Bill Gates." Big History" has been described as a single story, stretching from the origins of the Universe to the present day and beyond, using accounts of the past developed within scholarly disciplines that are usually studied quite separately.Darcy Moore is an experienced educator, currently Deputy Principal at Dapto High School, and a member of KDHS. At the school Darcy has been working on a project where students study 13.8 billion years of history and have their DNA analysed as part of the course to learn about their ancestors' route out of Africa. He will share with us the good news that anyone can study the course online free and arrange for their own DNA to be analysed as part of a citizen science project run by National Geographic. This is truly a topic that will open your eyes and cause you to think about a facet of history that otherwise could well have escaped you. Darcy is currently in the USA, having been awarded a NSW Premier's Teaching Scholarship to learn more about DNA, citizen science and Big History.
