Santa will fly in by helicopter for family photos as a special treat at the HARS Aviation Museum’s Tarmac Day at Illawarra Regional Airport, Albion Park on Sunday (16 December). The man in the red suit will swap his reindeer and sleigh for a helicopter to arrive at 11 am. Santa and his elves and fairies will then be available until 2pm for photos in one of the HARS Aviation Museum’s jumbo-sized Boeing 747 engine cowls. Families are invited to use their camera or iphone for a $5 donation to support the impressive restoration projects at the Historical Aircraft Restoration Society, including the London to Sydney non-stop record-holding first Boeing 747-400 delivered to Qantas. Apart from the Santa opportunity, the museum’s volunteer guides will welcome visitors to step into Australia’s aviation heritage, actually inside some of the aircraft. More than 40 aircraft of the HARS collection – each with their own significance to aviation history -- will be on show for the December Tarmac Days. The museum’s acclaimed Café Connie is open for barista coffee plus hot and cold food at very reasonable prices … so when visiting HARS Aviation Museum you can make a meal of it.
